Using character or numeric constant values in a WHEN condition that is within a CASE expression might cause PROC SQL to terminate with a segmentation violation. This abend occurs if you do not specify an ELSE clause and the WHEN condition subsequently resolves to false.

To work around the issue, include an ELSE clause within the CASE expression. This prevents the abend.
